Merrymeeting Marsh

Ava and I went out and had a great day at Merrymeeting Marsh in New Durham.  We took the canoe, rods and gear and made absolutely no official plans for the day other than "Get to the water" and "Fish".

We put in near the snowmobile bridge right off Route 11 in New Durham.  The sun was out in full force with minimal clouds and zero chance of rain.  Since we had no plans for the day other than getting on the water, it was a super-relaxing day of just lightly paddling down the snake-like marsh (on the south-side of Route 11).

We saw a few turtles, bunches of fish under us, cool birds, and heard what maaaaaaay have been a Big Foot (or maybe just a loon).  The current kept pushing the boat into the pucker-brush, so we went back within 1/4 mile or so of the bridge where the water was much calmer and started to pull up some sunfish and perch.

We ended up catching a handful of each until we called it a day and just took our time heading down side roads back home.

I think anyone who spends their weekdays in an office or fighting the brain-dead masses on the highway should find something like this to do on the weekends.....  It really makes Monday morning much more bearable!
